Metro A. Narcisi, III

Metro A. Narcisi, III graduated from Berklee College of Music in 1988 with a Bachelors Degree in Professional Music and MAT-C at RI College. Metro is the Director of Instrumental Music at West Warwick High School and currently has 240 students in his ensembles (Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Junior Jazz Band, and Jazz Ensemble “A” Band). WWHS Jazz Bands have been finalists at the Berklee Jazz Festival seven times since 2002 placing 2nd five times and winning in 2007. WWHS Jazz Bands have been coming to the Berklee College of Music Jazz Festival for the past 35 years, this will be Metro’s 19th at director. As a musician, Metro has traveled throughout the U.S., Canada, and the Caribbean, performing on saxophone with the likes of Jon Faddis, Marvin Stamm, Clarence Clemons and Nils Lofgren (of Bruce Springsteen fame), The Platters, The Association, Buster Poindexter, Gary “US” Bonds, Three Dog Night, John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Steve Smith and The Nakeds, as well as performances at the JVC Newport Jazz Festival. In addition, he was a woodwind performer and band leader aboard various cruise lines in the Caribbean. Mr. Narcisi was selected as the 2001 “Teacher of the Year” in RI by the Wal-Mart Corporation and is listed in “Who’s Who in RI Jazz.” In 2001 and 2006 he conducted the RI Junior All-State Jazz Ensemble and has served as the Senior All-State manager and Tri-M music Honor Society Chairperson for the RI Music Educator’s Association. Mr. Narcisi is NBPTA National Board Certified music teacher, one of only six in the State of RI. Metro conducted the 2012 RIMEA Senior All-State Jazz Ensemble in March 2012 at URI and has served as a guest jazz clinician in the New England area. In addition he conducted the Senior All-State Ensemble as they opened the Natixis 2012 Newport Jazz Festival in August. Metro is also an adjunct faculty member at Salve Regina University in Newport RI. Recently, Metro was selected as “2011 Teacher of the Year” by the WW Lion’s Club. Currently, in addition to teaching, Metro performs throughout New England as featured soloist on saxophone and flute with the band “Cover to Cover” which also features Berklee Assistant Professor Joe Carrier (http://www.covertocoverband.com/). He also performs with various jazz groups and big bands in the RI area. He is married to his lovely wife Michelle, has two yorkies (Abbie and Ebu) and resides in Ashaway, RI.
